Environmental Impact Statement lodged and on public exhibition
A significant milestone in the Port Kembla Gas Terminal assessment process has been reached with the lodgement of the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) with the NSW Government.
The EIS is the key document prepared for the Government to describe potential impacts of a project on the environment and is required by all major projects seeking development consent in NSW.
The Port Kembla Gas Terminal EIS is more than 2000 pages long and includes comprehensive scientific studies and impact assessments on issues as diverse as air and water quality, safety, biodiversity, heritage, noise and visual impacts.
The EIS will now be placed on public exhibition for 28 days, with public submissions able to be made until December 14.
Once the submissions received are collated by the Government, AIE will be required to prepare a response to submissions document which will be considered by the Government before it makes a final Project determination.
Subject to assessment timeframes, AIE anticipates having gas to market in the first quarter of 2020.
